FAQ's

Question: Can I request that my son play on the same team as his friend(s)?

Answer: We hold a player draft in grades 4 - 8, so we are not able to accommodate special requests on these levels.  Coaches and parents are great about doing ride shares, so transportation should never be a problem. 2nd and 3rd grade teams are selected based on the schools they attend.

Question: What equipment is provided by the Elk River Youth Football Association, and what equipment do players need to provide?

Answer: The association provides players with the following:

§         Jerseys that the players get to keep

§         Football Pants

§         Mouth guard

Players need to provide the following:

§         Helmet

§         Shoulder Pads

§         Football Shoes (any rubber cleated shoes such as baseball or soccer shoes are also OK.)

Question: When does the season start, and when does it end?

Answer: Practices for the 2007 season start on Monday, August 13th for 2nd thru 6th graders.
Games for 2nd-6th graders start on Tuesday, September 4th.
The season ends on Sunday, October 14th.

For the 7th and 8th graders, the season starts on August 6th and ends before MEA weekend.

Question: On what nights are practices held?

Answer: Practices for 4th thru 8th graders are normally two nights per week, Mondays & Wednesdays. 2nd & 3rd graders practice once per week on either Monday or Wednesday. Each coach sets the practice schedule, so they vary slightly by team.

Question: What nights are games played, and what time do they start?

Answer: Grades 2 through 6 play their games on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Games start at either 6:15pm or 7:45pm.  For the 7th and 8th grade leagues, games are tentatively scheduled to be held on Tuesdays for 7th grade and Thursday/Sunday for 8th grade.  Once this is finalized it will be posted on this site.

How are Team Rosters formed?

Answer: 2nd and 3rd grade teams are formed by school if possible to keep the kids together and to minimize travel to practices. This is a very difficult task and impossible to satisfy everyone as the number of kids from each school and grade are different and change from year to year.  We may adjust some team rosters to maintain a more competitive balance if needed. We do appreciate everyone’s understanding regarding this issue. 4th – 8th grade teams are formed using an equi-draft system to evenly distribute size and talent.

Can Girls Play in the program?

Answer:  Yes. We usually have several girls in the program each year.

How can someone get involved and help the program?

Answer:  The best way is to come to the monthly meetings. We can always use some help and new ideas.

Question: When will I find out what team I am on and the practice schedule?

Answer: The player draft is being held on in mid-August. After the draft, the coaches will contact each player on their team and you will be given your schedule at that time.  If you have not received a call by Tuesday, August 22nd, please call the league director for your age group to get the details

Question: I'm interesting in coaching, how do I become a coach?

Answer: Elk River Youth Football is always looking for new volunteers to help coach.  If you are interested, please contact the League Director below in the age group you are interested in with a brief explanation who you are and what past coaching experience you may have. However, past coaching experience is not necessary to coach in our association.
